Gallagher Girls Chapter 4 Discussion!

Welcome to the discussion for Chapter 4 I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You, the first book in the Gallagher Girls series!

Check out past discussions here:

Chapter 3

Here are today's questions. Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

1. What was your reaction to learning that Macey was a Gallagher legacy?

2. Why do you think Mr. Solomon threw a letter opener at Ms. Buckingham? Dramatic effect? Showing off?

3. Any speculation as to why Macey has been to so many different schools?

4. If you had just been told that your new school was a school for spies, how would you take it? What would you do next?

5. Do you think Cammie, Liz, and Bex will end up making friends with Macey eventually?

6. How do you think the girls' new living arrangement will work out?

7. Cammie's mom acts completely different when she and Cammie are alone. Have your parents or someone else you know ever done that? What do you think the reasoning is behind this? How does it make you feel?

8. What's your opinion as to why Macey was so happy that her parents wouldn't know the real truth about her new school?

9. Why do you think there is no tuition to go to Gallagher Academy?

***Just a heads up - there will be SPOILERS***

  1. 1. It actually didn't surprise me at all.
    2. To show her they were serious. I don't think she would have believed them if he hadn't!

    3. I'm thinking that the smoking and issues with authority *might* have something to do with it, but beyond that, I don't have any other guesses.

    4. I'd be thrilled. I really like spies, and kinda always thought it would be fun to do some sort of espionage.

    5. I hope so. Seems like it could be a great way to introduce some conflict though if they don't.

    6. I think there will be issues with Macey being a little spoiled and thinking she's more special than everyone else.

    7. My mom is different in public than she is in private, but I think most people are. It doesn't bother me.

    8. I think that she would be excited about having something her powerful parents didn't know everything about. It's a luxury she doesn't see very often, I would guess.

    9. Government pays for spies education= Government who doesn't have to spend money training adults to be spies. Long term savings I would guess.

  2. 1. It just figures that she is a legacy! Totally bummed :/

    2. Dramatic effect? I think it was a little over-the-top to get Macey's attention/interest, and thank goodness Ms. Buckingham was on top of her game!

    3. I think Macey was either bored (super-smart and unchallenged) or a troublemaker (to ruin her parents' 'perfect' image).

    4. First thought: How in the world did I end up in spy school? Second thought: I'M GOING TO DIE!!! Third thought: Do my best to NOT die :D

    5. Maybe, I don't know. Macey seems full of herself, so I can see her as their permanent arch-nemesis. But who knows - she may drop the act and become semi-cool :)

    6. It will be anything but quiet, I am sure. The war between the roommates! Until there is mutual truce...

    7. Yes! It drives me nuts! When they're "cool" with other kids and they are stricter with my brothers and me.

    8. Probably because she likes doing things that her parents probably would not approve of.

    9. That I'm not sure. IHM has a good point, but that would be a pretty huge investment that could go down the drain if the girls decide not to be a spy. I wonder if those GG who become spies get compensated and then they in turn donate money back to the Academy.

  3. 1. Makes sense to me, not surprising.

    2. I think it was for the shock effect. It takes a bit of no-nonsense with Macy.

    3. Probably bordem. She is a genius, so shes probably bored out of her mind just wasting away at some fancy private shcool.

    4. I am a chicken. So I would probably freak out.

    5. Of course. Macy will have some valuable insight for their scheming and become Cammies new confident.

    6. The rest of the school goes 4 to a room, they should be fine ^_^

    7. Theres always a difference between professionalism and how someone talks to their kid. She cant keep a bunch of spies in check by being understanding. She has to be firm, I have no problem with it.

    8. I think she kind of resents them ^_^ Always shipping her off.

    9. Who could really afford that? Plus these girls are in government service or will be. Like how the army sometimes pays for education. These girls will be soldiers.

Thanks for the great discussion ^_^

  4. 1. Not very surprising

    2. To show that they were serious.

    3. Maybe because no one could stand her attitude?

    4. "Really? Are you freaking kidding me?"

    -pauses-

"You're serious? OH MY LORD!!! COOL!!"

    5. Yes, no other choice I suppose. But not very close friends.

    6. There might be arguements.

    7. My mom is the same most of the time. I suppose Cammie's mom has a image to maintain and can't dress so casually. I'm ok with it.

    8. I suppose because she can keep a SECRET from them. Heheee.

    9. Because they are all super smart? Haha.

  5. 1. I liked learning that Macey was a Gallagher legacy. It makes for an interesting twist. And, puts a great kink in Cammie's world.

    2. I think Mr. Solomon threw a letter opener at Ms. Buckingham more for the Dramatic effect. His precision showed that he knew what he was doing.

    3. I think Macey has been to so many different schools because she was able to figure out the ins and outs of each school to the point of being able to make trouble for the headmasters/ headmistresses.

    4. If you had just been told that my new school was a school for spies, I would think it was sooooo cool. Then, I'd work by butt off to show my worth.

    5. Yes, I think Cammie, Liz, and Bex will end up making friends with Macey. Also, Macey will turn out to be a key player in their group.

    6. I think the girls' new living arrangement will be rocky at first.

    7. Cammie's mom acts completely different when she and Cammie are alone which is normal. Being headmistress, Cammie's mom, needs to be professional with Cammie in front of others. This way Cammie will not be treated any different when in classes.

    8. Macey was so happy that her parents wouldn't know the real truth about her new school because she lives to irk them.

    9. I think there is no tuition to go to Gallagher Academy because the tuition is actually a hidden cost. The students give up their social lives within a "normal" community.
